Apps are the lifeblood of any mobile operating system, and Ubuntu Touch is no exception. They're divided into three different categories.
Core Apps
Core Apps are apps that come pre-installed with every version of Ubuntu Touch and are the applications that are required for you to use the device. Just imagine using a smartphone without a dialer or clock for example. We welcome all contributors, but some Core Apps are lacking maintainers.
What does a maintainer do? Well, they're responsible for reviewing merge requests, triages, investigates issue reports and helps develop the app.

Essential Apps
Essential Apps are the must-have, killer apps that every device should feature, and we’re collaborating with our partners to bring these to life. Think of music players, messaging apps, photo editors, pretty much any kind of app that a user would use every day, that's the kind of app that we're looking for.
Additionally, our community develops a wide variety of apps available on OpenStore, our app marketplace.
