News and Update
AppLee, Marius and Alfred presented.
Noble
In Gitlab the framework name has been changed from 25.3 to 24.04. Qt 6 support is now baked in for UI support and ContentHub. Fixes for tests and for Halium build tools. There is one interesting one which is a new device, the Rabid R1 has been added.
Some changes may affect AudioCard when used with Noble, on some devices. If that happens, let us know. The point of the change is to allow proper USB com activity, for example with an adapter and ophono plug. it is important that call audio works in this way and further work is being done to achieve that.
Mir is now supported between 2.16 and 2.20. Porters should be able now to build 64 bit kernel but with 32 bit Halium.
OpenStore apps news
On app, Pochta by Herman allows access to various Russian postal services without having to visit a post office.
Flow is an unofficial client for Deezer. Great work by Sander.
Imaginario has been updated by a new maintainer. It is an excellent photo management app. Many thanks to Albrto Mardegan.
DisCO2very is an app for analysing CO2 footprint. Many thanks to Fla for that.
Upower indicator has been updated.
Fahrplan has been updated by Luksus.
Syncthing has had some work. It allows you to sync files between devices.
There are some more translations for the terminal app.
Fluffychat is still broken and we are waiting for the Mir updates which it needs, in order for Flutter to be compatible.
We still have groups on Matrix but they are not very much used. A move from telegram could be possible once we have a properly working Matrix client but even then we would need bridging from telegram and with so many groups that would only be practical for a few.
Sponsors were thanked.
Questions
The News section of our forum is the best place to post questions for the Q&A. YouTube live chat, Telegram and Matrix are other places to post a question.
If you didn't know, the Forum questions get priority.
Nobel devices
Alagirialagiri asked when we can expect the first appearance of 24.04 on a UT device? Also, what is the latest position on VoLTE?Well apart from a problem with MMS, VoLTE is working pretty well with Mediatek devices. On Qualcomm we are still making progress but not there yet. We need some testing of the beta version for Qualcomm, preferably with feedback from across the world because a standard is very loose and the exact situation is very variable.
In the USA and India 2G and 3G has already been shut down. It will be great to get UT working properly again in those markets. The main issue to sort out with 24.04 now is the compatibility with OpenStore. Other than that, we are very close to release. In the meantime we want to get nightlies and RC versions out, to boost testing.
We want to get some of the most recent Debian stuff into the release.
Samsung phones
Shazam asks when we are going to do more to support Samsung phones? Well first we have to make it clear that we are voluntary organisation, not a business. So it isn’t really proper to put demands upon us. Apart from that Samsung make their phones almost impossible to work with. The same applies to Xiaomi and their locked boot loaders.Snap support
Sylver Shadow asked in the chat how to manually enable Snap support? Actually from 24.04 you don’t need to because it is already enabled by default. KDE apps seem to be working nicely even though they were not designed for our system. All 200 of the KDE apps are available as snaps and should work well. On their question about Waydroid it does look as though newer Android OS versions will run in Waydroid.
Brax3 phone
Jean~Luc asked if things are off to a good start with BraX3? AppLee suggested that things are going well. We hope to have representatives from there on a future show.Halium
What is the new Halium version? The latest is 13. There are just three devices so far.Click vs Snaps package
We had a question about click packages. Those are system version dependent not universal although they may just work if their requirements are simple. With snaps LomiriUI tools supply everything that is needed.
See you next time :-)
