Let the weekend begin! Your Biweekly UBports email news is here!

From your editor

Hi people, Here is another edition of the bi-weekly UBports news letter. This time with some short and sweet stuff.

You know, we currently have 2919 subscribers? Amazing! Let's get this to 3K! Spread the word!

It is really starting to feel like summer. I love that! Hope all of you have a lovely summer ahead.

Anyway, sit back, grab hold of your favorite beverage and enjoy another episode of the UBports Newsletter (while I write this edition this time with the Mile Oldfield live album "Shadow On The Wall. Vol. 1" playing in the back)

In our community

Clickable 7.4.0 has been released! It comes with some first Focal Support. It already allows to build apps for 20.04 for the host architecture and run them in desktop mode.

IDE support with brand new QtCreator is next in the pipeline. Still missing is the ability to cross-compile.

We expect a blog post with instructions on how to test and report issues, still. For now, the UBports UT App Dev group on Telegram (https://t.me/UbuntuAppDevEN) is the best place to ask questions.

App developers can try whether their apps compile and start without crash on Focal. Until some compatibility layer is in place (it's planned), you first need to change some Ubuntu QML imports:

find -name '*.qml' | xargs -I {} sed -i 's/import Ubuntu\./import Lomiri./g' {}

Then run your app on your desktop with the following command:

Happy coding y'all!

(this block has non-standard right marginbecause of the code oneliner)

Here are some Ubuntu Touch apps to try out

  • Touch IDE (https://open-store.io/app/touchide.daniel) by Daniel Schlieckmann is a touch-optimized, mobile-friendly development environment. Its programming language is easy to use and requires minimal keyboard input.

  • Diceware (https://open-store.io/app/diceware.koenvervloesem) by Koen Vervloesem generates secure passphrases from a Diceware word list. Just choose your language, word list, number of words and a few other parameters and start generating secure passphrases.

Please remember that OpenStore has a built-in option to donate to app creators. We urge you to use that button, so that we'll get more great apps on Ubuntu Touch.
