The UBports Foundation, or UBports, is a charitable foundation under the German law
(gemeinnützige rechtsfähige Stiftung des bürgerlichen Rechts). Its mission is to support the collaborative development of Ubuntu Touch and to promote its widespread use. The foundation provides financial, organizational and legal support to the broader Ubuntu Touch community. It also serves as an independent legal entity to which anyone can contribute code, funding and other resources, with the knowledge that these contributions will be used for public benefit.

The UBports projects are all freely available with an OSI-approved open source license.



Mission Statement


Establish and support a collaborative community for the development and promotion of an open source phone operating system. This operating system should respect the user's freedom and privacy, be developer-friendly and secure, and offer convergence.




Specific goals supporting the overall mission


 Ensure a high degree of quality in UBports projects to build and preserve the associated brand;


Ensure the long term support and maintenance of UBports projects and developments; 


Provide resources for UBports projects, including infrastructure, a Contributor License Agreement (CLA), funding, and legal resources;

 
Encourage the implementation of open standards and standards-based interoperability in UBports projects;


Support the worldwide use of and contributions to UBports projects from the community by the internationalization of the software and community outreach;


Represent the community's opinion regarding the Ubuntu Touch roadmap, marketing and development strategies;


Promote the use of open source software in the industry, for instance by training and outreach;


Organize members' meetings to improve collaboration and increase knowledge of UBports projects.
